Hello everyone. My name is Akiko. I’m native Japanese, now living in Switzerland, where I run Japanese cooking classes in French and English (www.theMatchaGreen.com).

If you like ‘food’, you will love visiting local supermarkets on your travels, as I do!

This is a guided supermarket tour. If you are in central Tokyo during the following period, why not join me and enjoy shopping for groceries and cookware? Getting a taste of ordinary Japanese food at a local supermarket is sure to be fun. On this tour, I will take you to a supermarket in Omori, in Tokyo.

(If you are in central Tokyo, I can also join you near your place of residence, please feel free to contact me).

SUPERMARKET LOCATIONS

*Please choose one of the two shops below (A or B).

A: Ito-Yokado Omori (large supermarket chains)

  • 7 mins from JR Omori (JK18 JR Keihin-Tohoku line, the second station from JR Shinagawa Station.)
  • 3 min from Omorikaigan (KK07 Keikyu-Main line, direct connection to Haneda Airport.)

There is a food floor and a kitchenware department on the same floor for those who want to see both. Also there is another food glossary shop « KALDI (the website is in Japanese only) Â» which you can find slightly unusual products. There is a bakery and a popular Â« Komeda coffee Â» coffee shop on the same floor that serves light meals (Enjoy Japanese “Bread”!).

B: AtrĂ© Omori (in JR Omori station building, operated by Tokyu store)

  • Directly connected and 1 min from JR Omori station (JK18 JR Keihin-Tohoku line).

Very convenient, directly connected to the Omori station. Smaller in scale than Ito-Yokado, but surely still enjoyable enough for food shopping. The restaurant floor in the same building is also well stocked, you can enjoy a meal after your tour. There is also small version Â« KALDI (the website is in Japanese only) Â» shop in the same building.

Please note, the food floor does NOT have kitchenware; shopping is for food only

*If you would prefer to visit a supermarket near to where you are staying, please contact me to discuss.
